4th West Lothian Scouts intro to angling

RiverLife teamed up with Linlithgow Angling Club (LAC) and Scottish Angler’s National Association (SANA) this month to give 20 scouts from Linlithgow an introduction to fly fishing over two evenings.  6 instructors from SANA, several volunteers from LAC and two of us from the RiverLife team met the scouts at their scout hall on the first evening.  They were then shown how to tie a fly on to a leader and had a go at casting on the grass outside the hall.  We also introduced the boys to some mini-beasts by taking a kick sample from the nearby River Avon.   This gave them an insight into the sort of things they should be trying to imitate when they select a fly.

A week later, we all met up again at Millhall reservoir in Polmont to have a go at catching some rainbow trout.  There were several bites missed and a few fish netted.  A good time was had by all.  Thanks LAC, SANA and the 4th West Lothian Scouts.
