A wet day on the Danny Burn

Blyth, Niall and Kyle were up the Danny Burn, a tributary of the Allan Water, planting trees as part of a wider tree planting scheme we have secured funding for as part of the Allan Water Project. The three staff members managed to plant out 150 trees on the slopes of the burn to help repopulate native trees along the burn which will benefit the river in a number of ways such as providing shade and cover for fish once the trees grow to providing Natural Flood Management benefits for communities downstream.

We are also trialling new paper tree tubes which have been designed to last outdoors but act as a more environmentally friendly method compared to plastic tubes. It is the first time we have used them and we will be keeping a close eye to see how they stand up to the Scottish weather.

Unfortunately, the staff had to make a hasty retreat as the Scottish weather was showing its cards with winds starting to pick up and torrential rain.

They will be back next week to continue planting alongside Highland Springs who are supporting this work by providing volunteers to help plant.
