Allan Water Improvement Project Refunded

We are delighted that again in 2020, the Scottish Government has provided important funding for the Allan Water Improvement project which supports landowner engagement and management of improvements across the Allan Water catchment. The project started in 2011 has continued since then to support landowners and other stakeholders to undertake works to improve the resilience of the catchment. This includes improvements for biodiversity, natural flood management and habitat gains.
The project is hosted by the Trust and the core funding supports staff time to deliver work in agreement with landowners and manage the project.
In 2019 the trust supported the following work via the project:
  • Raised bog restoration and stock management at Tign na Blair (funded by Agri Environment Climate Scheme (ACES))
  • Access improvements for Allan Water Angling Improvement Association (volunteer work party)
  • Continuing giant hogweed management (with Dunblane and Bridge of Allan Community Councils)
  • Evaluation of catchment monitoring currently installed in the Knailk Subcatchment (assisted by Centre of Expertise for Waters)
  • Ongoing discussions for fish passage on the Danny Burn with Bear Scotland and Tulibardine Distillery.
  • Supported an application for ACES funding for Blackford Farms to improve areas of raised bog and other protected sites.
So far in 2020:
  • Presented at the annual SNIFFER Conference on Natural Flood management techniques.
  • Agreed contracts for ACES funded scheme at Blackford on important raised bogland within a multi protected sites.
  • Monitoring installed at Ashfield Weir (camera funded by Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environment Trust)
  • Willow spilling at Nether Cambushinnie
  • Giant hogweed management
  • Management plan for river restoration between Blackford and Greenloaning for working within protected sites (funded by SHN)
  • River restoration options appraisal between Blackford and Greenloaning (funded by the Scottish Government)
