Amphibians of the Forth

This weekend, as part of the RiverLife Almond & Avon, Jacquelyn, Amy and Nim were going to visit Almondell and Calderwood County Park to try and survey some of our native amphibians and talk to the community about where to find them, how they live and how to identify them. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, but we thought we would fill this weekend with posts about amphibians so that you can have a look for them in your garden or whilst enjoying the spring sunshine during your daily allotted exercise!

There are 7 native species of amphibian in the UK, and 5 of these are found within the Forth District. Each can be distinguished by their size, texture and colour. The guides below contain pictures and a list of key features to look out for.

Have you spotted any amphibians when out on your daily walk ? or maybe you had some visit your garden ? Let us know in the comments section below.
