On a warm, humid and what was initially a very wet day, the Trust along with 9 intrepid members of the public set off on a guided walk along the River Teith at Cambusmore Estate.
The Estate sits just East of Callander and played host to our guided walk which was run as part of Callander’s Landscape for Callander Summerfest. The estate is set in semi natural mature ancient woodland with restoration planting and conifer plantations along the riverbank. Our host was Peter Yates, the ghillie and fisheries manager for the estate who provided an in-depth insight into the heritage, wildlife and estate activities on the river.
Peter has a wealth of knowledge on the river, estate and its history as he has lived and worked nearby since the 70’s. Topics ranged from ancient hill forts, salmon fishing on the estate and the fantastic wildlife you might find if you are lucky such as otters, red squirrels, eagles and more.
Thankfully, the rain stayed away during the walk and everyone had a great time walking along the banks of the River Teith. A massive thank you goes out to Peter for taking the time to walk with us and tell us about the river and estate.
