Eel ropes on the Water of Leith
Jack was at the Water of Leith Conservation Trust yesterday teaching the traditional methods of eel rope making. This messy but effective method is a cheap way to get our eels over river barriers such as weirs and small dams.
A great workshop with all participants enjoying learning the art of making eel ropes. Thank you to the Water of Leith Conservation Trust for inviting us along to show this traditional method and thanks to the individuals who attended for being so enthusiastic.
Eels are an endangered species within Europe and need our help for them to thrive in our industrialised rivers.
