The Allan Water Project has been a fantastic example of collaboration to revive the Allan Water and work towards a climate change resilient catchment. This is being achieved through tree planting, installation of large woody structures, peatland restoration, brash banking, wetland creation and even more. This work demonstrates ways to make the river resilient to our changing climate by using techniques such as natural flood management to slow the flow and riparian tree planting to keep rivers cool.
The project would not have been possible without the hard work of staff, volunteers, willing collaboration from landowners, and funding from multiple sources such as the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund, managed by NatureScot, funding and support from MERLINproject and ongoing research, including studies from Jyväskylä University and Heriot-Watt University.
The project site is a valuable demonstration of how we can work to restore rivers for the benefit of people and wildlife, so please show your support – go and cast your vote for FORTH RIVERS TRUST now.
