Forth Rivers Trust are delighted to announce the allocation of over £400,000 in funding to support three critical projects aimed at restoring nature across the catchment.
These works represent a significant step toward the conservation and protection of Scotland’s natural heritage by supporting fragile habitats and species. The three projects, generously funded by NatureScot through the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund, will include habitat restoration measures, species protection and local community engagement.
- Greenloaning 2: This will rejuvenate natural floodplain processes at Greenloaning, building upon previous Trust project works. Using natural flood management techniques, the floodplain will be re-wetted and scrapes installed to help biodiversity flourish.
- Freshwater Pearl Mussel Conservation: These critically endangered molluscs demand pristine water quality but face declining numbers. This project will support conservation and habitat restoration efforts to ensure the survival of this species on the edge.
- Balcaskie Wetlands: Key wetland areas will be created, riparian tree planting established to improve instream habitat, driven by working closely with community organisations to help deliver change locals want to see.

Securing this funding demonstrates our ongoing dedication to protect and restore the Forth catchment’s biodiversity.
