Overview

In March 2026, FRT staff completed the planting of 2000 trees at Callandrade Meadows in collaboration with Callander Community Development Trust. These trees were Goat, Grey and Eared Willows, as well as Alder and Downy Birch, and protected in biodegradable tree guards.

The 3.6ha site was carefully designed so as not to impact areas of reedbed and wetland habitat that hold high ecological value. This should result in a site rich in biodiversity though the mosaic of wet woodland, rush pasture, reedbeds, riparian habitat and wetland.

We look forward to seeing these trees grow and mature. A huge thanks to the community who turned up and braved some mixed weather conditions during the tree planting, and thank you also to the landowner for allowing this project to take place. 

Objectives

  • Create a diverse mosaic of Willow and Alder woodland habitat at Callandrade Meadows
  • Deliver woodland creation whilst protecting valuable areas of reedbeds and wetland features
