Forth Rivers Training Project

Overview

The Forth Rivers Training Project secured funding in 2014 to provide 15 training opportunities for volunteers and staff in a range of activities which would enable volunteers to carry out river management works. The training opportunities provided to volunteers and staff included:

  • PA1 and PA6aw Pesticides license for treating INNS near watercourses
  • Certificate in Electrofishing to support the Trust monitor fish populations in rivers
  • 250mm Lantra Chainsaw Certificate
  • Outdoor First Aid Certificate

All volunteers provided the opportunity to gain skills were encouraged to participate in local volunteering to support rivers. Volunteers were also provided with any PPE which would be required as part of this project.

Providing volunteers with skills and certificates not only provided support for their local river but also supported them in their professional development by enabling them to boost their skills for employability.

This project is now finished and was completed in March 2015.

Objectives

  • Boost volunteers skills so they can be more involved with their local river.
  • increase employability of volunteers through access to specialist skills and qualifications.
  • Encourage community stewardship of rivers by providing the community with the skills they need to look after their local river.
