River Larig Riparian Woodland Project

Overview

 Working with the landowner at Inverlochlarig Farm, the Trust is boosting riparian woodland along the River Larig and its tributaries for the benefit of riparian wildlife but also river wildlife. The project is creating pods of trees to provide protection against deer, cattle and sheep so that riparian woodland can be established alongside current land uses. 

The project involves volunteers to install pods in one of the most remote parts of the Forth District which involves traversing fords and travelling up the glen to our planting sites. 

The project aims to improve riparian woodland along rivers in the upper Teith SAC to provide shade and cover for fish and the river. By providing shade for rivers, this will help mitigate against climate change by keeping rivers cool. Once the trees have grown, branches and detritus will fall off them into the river. This nutrient input will help make the river thrive by increasing the number of invertebrates for fish to eat and help provide cover for wildlife.
