Thanks to all of the volunteers who attended the Trusts workshop on how to survey salmon and sea trout redds (nests) in Callander. Sylvian kicked things off with a fantastic presentation covering how to spot redds, survey method and it even included a few films we managed to capture from previous seasons of spawning salmon.
We then headed out on the river to put what everyone had learnt into practice. It was a tad wet and windy which made spotting any redds tricky but we were lucky enough to spot a few along with some salmon.
Volunteers now have a stretch of river to survey at a later date to support monitoring of salmon and sea trout within the Forth and Teith.
This workshop was run by the trust as part of Callander’s Landscape, a partnership project lead by Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Parksupported by a range of local partners of which the Trust is leading on all things rivers related.
