Rivers: Engage

Overview

 As part of Callander’s Landscape the Trust is leading on engaging the community and visitors with the local rivers. We plan to run activities for all ages to engage people with rivers.

Intro to Angling – As part of the project, the Trust plans to run an Intro to Angling workshop for young people to engage them with the sport of angling. With lots of opportunities to fish within Callander’s Landscape but not many opportunities to learn how to fish, we plan to provide that opportunity for young people in and around Callander. We also plan to set up a fishing rod loan scheme where residents and visitors can loan a fishing rod to participate in fishing.

Fish in the Class – Fish in the Class is a project the Trust runs to engage primary school children with rivers. The Trust will go to a local school to carry out a presentation for the class all about rivers and river wildlife, including the brown trout. The class then get a fish tank along with brown trout eggs where they then need to keep the water temperature cool by placing frozen water bottles in the tank for a number of weeks whilst watching the eggs develop and hatch. once the trout are ready, the children take the fish down to their local river and get to release them whilst carrying out other river studies on the river bank. The Trust will run this once per year for one school in or around Callander’s landscape.
