Catchment Description

The Biel Water starts in the Lammermuir Hills near Moss Law and flows towards Belhaven Bay where it discharges. The catchment is short and the river is small, even when it reaches the sea near West Barns.

Historic influences

As with many rivers in the Forth, historic influences have had a toll on this river. A weir was built 2km from the mouth of the river and is impassible for migratory fish.

Did you know ?

SEPA are currently working with the people responsible for the weir to make it passable. Once it has been made passable, migratory fish will be able to repopulate this catchment once more.
