Coastal Burns

Catchment Description

Although the Forth has a number of major river catchments draining into the estuary and Firth it also has a number of smaller burns which drain directly into the Firth. These burns are small coastal burns, normally small in nature but still important to the wildlife around the Forth. Many coastal burns are no more than 5 metres wide and tend to only be about 10-20km long.  They have very small catchments but can be greatly influenced due to the land-uses around them.  Some of the more notable coastal burns include the Bannockburn, Lyne Burn, Cocklemill Burn and the Midhope burn.
