The Almond Feeds the Union Canal

Starting at Almond Aqueduct on the Union Canal, see the canal boats chug by and ducks dive down to the weeds. Take a walk out to the middle of the bridge, where a sluice removes excess water from the canal back to the river via a considerable drop, often forming a wee rainbow in the sky.

Walk along the road following the feeder, head back down to pick up the feeder path and follow it along the Almond valley, a green and rolling landscape. Criss-cross over bridges, old and new, in Almondell & Calderwood Country Park, until you reach the weir that filters the water off from the Almond along the feed whose path you will have followed. Finish at the car park in Mid Calder.
