Kirkton weir, a major barrier to fish migration on the River Almond, will be getting a new fish pass over the next few weeks. Â A larinier fish pass will help trout and salmon, while a separate eel and lamprey pass will help the less jumpy of our fishy friends to pass this industrial relic. Â Works will take around 6 weeks to complete and a member of the RiverLife team will be there every Monday between 11am and 1pm to respond to queries and talk about the project.
Construction of a temporary dam, pictured here upstream of the weir, is almost complete. Â This temporary dam will create a dry working area on one half of the weir and direct the water down the other side. Â Stay tuned for updates.
